Welcomheritage Khimsar Fort
This magnificent fort is literally off the beaten track. Set in the midst of sand dunes, this amazing fort stands as securely as it did over many centuries of battle and strife. The construction of the fort was begun in 1523 by Rao Karamsji, 8th son of the founder of Jodhpur Rao Jodha, who chose the spot of Khimsar, 90 km from Jodhpur where one brother resided and 150 km away from Bikaner, fiefdom of another brother. Twenty one generations later, a part of this fort is still residence to the Karamsot Rathor direct lineage while the rest has been opened out to royal Rajput hospitality, personally overseen by the family, on a grand and elegant scale. It was for good cause that it was awarded the 'Grand Heritage Award for Excellence' by the Tourism Board of the Government of India. While Khimsar Fort borders the stark and arid Thar Desert, you are cocooned within the ramparts of this oasis of comfort with its 11 acres of lush lawns under the canopy of bright clear skies by day and brilliant unending stars by night. The 60 rooms within the fort are all equipped with every modern comfort including air-conditioning, heating, hot and cold running water, mini bar, telephone with international dialing facilities, etc. The d?cor varies though from the very traditional to art deco and some of the rooms have their own private terraces and balconies. Restaurant with Continental and Indian cuisine with Rajasthani specialties Coffee shop Rooftop lunch with folk dances, puppet show and magic show A not-to-be-missed candle-lit dinner in the ancient ruins of Fateh Mahal, to the beat of traditional musicians and dancers.
